Fests

Yesterday after posting to my blog. Brian and I met some friends down at the grand plaza for the city wide jazz marathon with over 70 free live shows in bars all throughout the city. The whole place was packed. It was fun going to the different bars and see the different kinds of jazz being played. Afterwards Nino took Brian and I to a club, where we met Jeremie and Laura. This was some of the craziest techno I have ever heard!! Brian and I stayed till round 330 or so then we caught a cab back the office. Nino is a dancing machine. Im not sure how late he stayed but prolly till 4 or 5 at least. Today I woke up to a meeting in the office. Afterwards Brian and I went to check out the festival going on at the skate park. After watching everyone skate we headed back to the well office for a STC meeting in order to get the ball rolling so to speak. This meeting was kinda long but it was good because now I have an idea of sorts of what I will be doing while Im here and how I can help. I am really stoked about this summer after this meeting because it put things in perspective how everything is going to come together. Once the meeting was over Brian made some deliche grill cheese then we headed back to the skate park because a band was playin. Upon arrival I noticed that the band wasnt the main attraction. But the bowl sesh going on. The band was playin right next to the bowl and mostly older dudes were just killin it. Some younger guys jumped in here or there but it was a lot fun, with the whole crowd watching and cheering when someone did something sick. I took alot of pics of the skaters, but unfortunately while editing them a good majority of the good ones that I wanted to keep got deleted. So I have posted the ones I was able to salvage along with some random pics over the past day. Enjoy.

Moving Time

Ok so heres the update. Ive just mainly been chillin at the office, not doing a whole lot. Wednesday Brian and I helped Jeremie with a photosoot for STC. It was alot of fun using the studio equipment, like lights and flashes and stuff. I liked the whole idea of setting up the equipment to create the image instead of going out and just shooting the instant. I went with Nino yesterday afternoon to go buy some stuff for himself. Its funny they an H&M every block or so. I found out from Laura,a member of the well, yesterday that she has an extra ticket to Deerhunter last night and that if I wanted it I could go with Jeremie. So naturally I said yes, Jeremie had gotten a free ticket to to take pics for an ezine. The venue was one of the coolest I have ever been to. It was in an old dome part of an art museum. The sound quality was really good for the small space. Deerhunter played well but was very boring in their showmanship. I found my self yawing alot. When bands play they need to make the crowd part of the show as well, and not just stand there as if they dont want to be there. Anyways here are a few pics of some street dancers that we passed. I didnt take any pics of Deerhunter because I was not allowed to. I might try to ask if Jeremie will let use some of his to put up here. Also here is a selection of the members only jackets that eruopean thrift store had. And a pic of Brian doing his best to model.

Catch Up for realzzz

So ima catch yall up on the last few days as best I can remember since the days have been running together. Friday didn’t do much woke up at three then went to Jeremie's Bday bash. Loads of fun talking with everyone especially Nino, been hanging out with him a lot having awesome conversations. Saturday welcomed Brian early. Then to the Doyle's to baby sit while STC meeting took place. Afternoon consisted of watching Snatch, great movie everyone needs to see that and lock stock and two smoking barrels. Evening was Johnvir's bday bash, he is on staff with CAI. Great party at beermania. Yes beer mania. They have over 400 types of beer, yet I only tried 2. We left at 1030 so the place could close. The party then moved to Johnvir's pad where people conversed and listened to good jams. Around 1230 Nino and his Icelandic friend Daniel and I went to a club called Fuse. It was a great time, danced to minimal techno DJ. Nino goes to clubs all the time to meet people. That is freaking awesome, he just got ten times better in my book. It’s cool though because I’m not counting. Sunday was good, went to Carlton's expression called dwell. They do an artistic approach to their meeting. Monday Brian and I and Bernardo did a film for a short asking people about and wisdom kinda fun but tiring. Rest of the day consisted of taking pics around brussels for our project. Today went to Bernardos to do final editing process. Then to the office for a prayer sesh. Nino, Brian, and I went the local skate shop to ask if there was anything we could do for them during the STC. They said we could clean the park a couple mornings because bums come and drink there at night and leave their trash eveerywhereee. Tonight had dinner with Brian at the Deal's, great dinner and conversation. Then went to Parker's international school to hear the rock extravaganza. Lots of fun to see all the talented muscians. O almost forgot european thrift stores are so much better than US ones check the pic below for proof. A whole row of members only!!!! Got a chillen flannel. K Im done. Acutally I have misplaced my card reader and so when I find that jank I will post that pic.

Catching up

Z-O-O

Today was a holiday for the country of belgium. Not particularly sure why or what you are supposed to celebrate, but the doyle's decided to go the zoo and invited me to tag along. So I arrived at the train station on time only to get a call from steven saying that they would prolly be more like another hour, naturally I decided to find some coffee and headed down the street to a little venue called delishe?, not sure on spelling. Well it wasn’t open so I found an outdoor cafe and ordered a coffee. Needless to say it was very disappointing coffee for 2 euros. I met the doyles back at the train station and we missed the first one but was able to catch the second one. We arrived in antwerp a half hour or so later. Conveniently the zoo is located next to the station. After passing through some dance show in the town center we began our exploration of the belgian zoological park. I had mucho amounts of fun today just takin pics of andrew and natalie as they explored all the wondrous creatures. Every animal to them was just as exciting as the last. From the elephant all the way to the duck. Today I decided to try and do something different with my shooting. I opened the lens the widest it could and just had my camera at my side and tried to capture mostly kids at their level. After the zoo we went to an ice cream place for a treat, but it turned out to be the crappie of the day, because no one came to serve us so with andrew’s mood turned from cranky to pleasant with tick of a clock we headed back to the train station. Upon our journey back we discovered a small pizza place and decided to take a load off while enjoying some delicious pizza. Andrew was happy that he was allowed to have ice cream before pizza but quickly learned that age old lesson that you can’t eat ice cream tooooo fast. So with andrew screaming for his sippy Laura proceeded to explain to him why exactly it is that you get brain freezes. After pizza we headed back to brussels. This train had a few more stops one in which I was explained to that this was the business district, which was the stop, was next to the red light disctrict. MMMMMM wonder why that is???????? We parted ways after the train station. When I got to Marco's I took a small nap then decided to hit the brussels skate park which has a nice lil double bowl and a few ledges and a bank to skate. I’ll put up pics of that later for those sshsskaters who are checkin this. I wanna do something there for kamikazee kinds there one day but I just don’t know what? Well today was fun but tiring. Check the pics. Leave some feed back because I never think my stuff is any good. Im only putting up a few in comparison to the thousand plus pics I took. HA

Losing blogging virginity

Dont judge to harshly. This is a first for me. Initially I was against blogs, but after reading loversland project blog I have seen the light. Arriving a week early has been great because I am getting the chance to explore and relax in the city before it all starts getting hectic. I have chosen the name heartland feeling really jsut because I liked the sound of that phrase. It expresses an idea that you can always find a little bit of your own heart in the places you go and the people you meet. So there I finally hopped on the internet band wagon of blogging. And as very good friend of mine says, "This bandwagon is quite comfy thanks".
